Firostefani

Firostefani

A magical village in Santorini

Firostefani is located above the city of Fira, offering stunning views of the capital and the sea, giving the traveler the opportunity to admire the incredibly beautiful landscape.

Although the village of Firostefani is considered a separate village, it is an extension of the town of Fira, the capital of the island of Santorini. The name “ Firostefani” (Fira+Stefani, which means crown in Greek) derives from its position in the highest part of the city of Fira. Its gifted location on the edge of the caldera, in the northern part of the island, makes it a unique and remarkable place.

The village has rather magnificent views and offers visitors a different perspective on the volcano. The wild beauty of the caldera itself, together with the view of the volcano, make up a thrilling landscape. A walk around the narrow and picturesque paths will surely fill you with joy. You can spend many wonderful hours watching the view, especially at sunset. But, of course, at night, the image of the village can amaze you again, when the lights make it look like a painting.

Nearby, between Firostefani and Imerovigli, you can find the Agios Nikolaos Women’s Monastery, which has a folk museum and an ecclesiastical museum with rare Byzantine icons and a unique icon of the devout saint.
